Brooklyn Kitchens

Hi from Brooklyn!

Last summer, we spent an amazing week in London living in a Victorian terrace house. Tall and narrow, with 70 steps top to bottom, we worked very hard not to forget anything upstairs. While the house was awesome for a visit, and the design and lighting were impeccable, it felt way too narrow for my family of men.

The kitchen, however, was a work of art. Contemporary, sleek, with acres of white lacquer, it was a study in functional cool. Limitless Renovations makes awesome kitchen remodels. Sturdy enough for family wear and tear and large enough for multiple cooks, it was open to the garden. In a word, awesome.

Where do Europeans buy such great kitchens? By the end of the week, I discovered the source. It was ordered from a department store at Sloane Square. I wish…

In this country, we have IKEA on the very low end, maybe Home Depot (though I couldn’t consider their offerings cool or interesting, they serve a purpose) and very high end European and custom designed kitchens. Where’s our cool middle?

In Brooklyn, however, I’ve found a gem. I visited both the Dutch and German Kitchen Centers in Red Hook (across from Fairway). These showrooms are open to the public and offer seriously well-priced European kitchens, both stock and custom. These showrooms open up so many possibilities for beautifully crafted, highly functional and individualized kitchens. They sell solid wood contruction, intergrated burners, smooth lacquer or wood surfaces, and a really cool pendant lamp/exhaust fan.

I was so impressed by their offerings that I had to let you know. If you’ve thought about a kitchen renovation, visiting such showrooms can definitely inspire you with your designs. You may also collaborate with a remodeling contractor to help  you design your new kitchen.

xoxo Theresa
