Putting Off My Bathroom Renovation

Hi from Brooklyn!

I’m sure that you think that interior designers live in the most glamourous spaces. I hate to burst your bubble, but so far from the truth! When you work all day on homes, it’s too exhausting to come home to…more work.

So with my parents on the way for a weekend visit, I found myself facing a terrible looking bathroom that has been on my ‘to renovate next month’ list for the past two years. How to make it look fabulous fast? I decided on a simple strategy- First, I had to fix the worst of the worst, and call in an emergency plumbing service to clean and unclog the drains. Then, I need to caulk the tub and fill in holes from the old towel bars. Next, I needed to create a diversion.

With a trip to the hardware store for supplies, it was surprisingly easy to rip out the old caulking and fill in with fresh white. Messy, but easy. Next, I filled in the wall holes and sanded them down. I bought a can of Zinsser bathroom paint. This stuff is awesome, especially if you have a bathroom with insufficient ventilation, like mine. Within three hours the bathroom looked a million times better.

Next came the diversion. I bought this bright and sunny shower curtain at Target, added a new liner, new white fluffy towels and voila! It looks a thousand times better. Total cost: $90.00.

Of course, I still need to renovate this bathroom and make some necessary repairs and maintenance like water damage restoration and septic tank pumping. Definitely next month.

xoxo Theresa
