Americana

Hi from Brooklyn!

The 4th of July is really making an impression on me this year. Maybe it's because I've watched so many countries strive to break free from tyranny recently, or because it's an election year and we have so much at stake, or maybe it's just because it's smack dab in the middle of the work week. Really, what are you supposed to do with that?

I've always found working with red, white and blue in interior design a bit awkward. There is a fine line between it looking very cool and somewhat beachy and having it look way to kitschy.

The best way to start is with white linen. Lots of white linen. While it may not seem practical at first, I've found from experience that linen is a naturally durable & dirt resistant fabric that has been perfected over thousands of years. Linen brings a light, fresh feel to any room.

Once your room is grounded with white,  add in a hard working natural fiber cotton dhurrie or sisal carpet & pop in chairs & accessories in red and blue. With the mix of textured neutral materials as a backdrop, your color accents will stand out and shine. Just like the USA.
