High Point Furniture Market- Spring 2016

Hi from High Point-

This year at High Point, we viewed 56 showrooms in 2 1/2 days. Thankfully, I move really, really quickly! While NYC has amazing furniture showrooms, they can only display about 10% of their lines, so seeing everything new is really important in order to stay on top of the furniture market.

How do I shop such a huge market and what do I look for? I know my clients and what they need to make their homes function with ease and fun. My top 3:

1. Small scale furniture. If you've ever had a problem fitting a piece of furniture though the door of your brownstone or up a narrow staircase, you'll know why this is huge for NY metro homes.

2. What looks fresh and new? We saw lots of glass top tables on sculptural metal bases. There was a lot of light wood tones- really no dark wood furniture at all. If you take a peek at my Instagram feed, you'll see what I mean. Go to @theresanyc.

3. Color and Direction. Tons of blue and green in all shades, from hunter and navy to citron. Neutrals- still gray but with emerging taupe and beige tones. Newness in the Neutral palette? We now include a pop of blush, like the suede sofa, above. Which happened to match my leather jacket. Fortuitous? I love happy coincidences.

xoxo Theresa
