My Color Theory

Hi from Brooklyn!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been working on a Design with Color seminar that we are giving in Kings Park, LI. My intention for this event is to help homeowners become more comfortable using paint to brighten their homes. Your home should both convey who you are but also make everyone who enters it comfortable. Today as I was going through some old emails, I found a link to Pantone’s Fashion Color Report fall 2012.

How to use each of these colors in a way that makes people ‘feel at home’? Some of these colors are easier than others, but I love a design challenge, so here goes…I pulled up my last 6 months of photos. And, guess what? I’ve been shooting these colors all along!

Tangerine Tango– as Pantone’s Color of the Year- I love this color as an accent. My favorite way to cozy up a home- a big bouquet of roses. This is not a shade that you want to see on every wall; it’s way too intense.

French Toast and Bright Chartreuse – I’m pairing these 2 together. Imagine them in a den or media room with modern accents and clean-line furniture. Beautiful!

Honey Gold and Olympian Blue – these colors are saturated with history and are still common in my Victorian-era neighborhood.

Pink Flambe – one of my favorite colors! This exudes joy and excitement. Perfect for a teenage dream bedroom and any room needing pizzazz.

Rhapsody – Purple doesn’t get much respect in the US. It is a great color for relaxing spaces and, I think, very chic.

Ultramarine Green – You can tell I love this color…I lacquered my kitchen chairs this shade over the summer.

Rose Smoke – Another misunderstood color-pink. But this shade is very, very sexy and would mix well with grey and metallics…anything with sparkle. It’s the fashion update to Nude.

Titanium – Lovely with both Rose Smoke and Rhapsody. It’s the missing link.

The Design with Color Event is next week and I’ll let you know if we manage to convert people into color users. It’s so much fun! I hope we do.

xoxo Theresa
