Letter from Paris- Jan 2025

Bonjour a Paris! There’s nothing like a weeklong stay in the City of Light during Paris Design Week. I spent several days attending showroom presentations on the Left Bank and then a day out at Maison et Objet. There was so much to see; read below for the highlights. Paris- always a good idea.

1. It’s been interesting to see the color shift to warm and cozy browns over the past year. Walking the show, I was hard pressed to find any display featuring gray. All shades of brown were represented from beige to espresso. Upholstery fabrics skewed towards velvet, wool and the like, offering tactile comfort and texture.
While some may not love the idea of brown, if you consider it in an ‘earthy’ context, you’ll see how lovely it can look especially paired with other nature-inspired color ways.

The Paris color offerings mirrored the colors that I highlighted in my High Point Market newsletter- mustard, amber, sienna, rose, and sage with a bit of ochre and teal green present.

2. Carpeting is definitely going to be the star of the show going forward. Not only was there a proliferation of new resources, there was an amazing consistency in offerings with color blocking and super graphic designs shining bright. Many carpets are organic in shape- like an accidental splash of sauce on the floor- giving the room unexpected art under foot. Stunning techniques and color combinations highlight the ingenuity of design prevalent in carpets.

3. Bold and graphic wallpaper, many digitally printed, is the trend now as illustrated by these photos. Floor to ceiling, wallpaper is an emersion into pattern. Taking it up a notch, I saw applications on top of the wallpaper giving a 3D effect to the walls. Customization is everything.
